While I admire the execution of 'War of the Worlds' and the effect it had, I understand trying to replicate the effect it had would be unwise in a university environment. Causing mass panic intentionally would have severe ethical implications. In this way it has helped me to consider how I could achieve the opposite effect. One of these is plenty of clear signallers that the piece is fake news, ie making to attempt to insinuate that the initial story is true. I have also decided to include a disclaimer on the flyer as additional insurance.
Due to these communications, I decided to make the performance more comical and satirical, not only to avoid misleading people, but in order to increase engagement with the subject. I created a giant sign, reminiscent of the headlines newstands use to promote papers. Rather than use a headline, I used it to signal I was distributing fake news.
I also used a mini-loudspeaker (the size again intended to be comical) to shout a collection of created and sourced fake news headlines I had found during my research of fake news sites. I only included those of a more satirical nature, rather than sites with a political agenda or genuine attempt to mislead.
Rosie Yates
Walking and drawing
One of the reasons I documented Rosie's artwork was its ambiguity. The instructions: draw a continuous line and do not look at the paper, while in the original case were in the context of walking in the station, could easily be repeated in other environments. For this reason I chose to repeat the process in my sketchbook in the studios and on the spine. While never explicitly instructed, I chose to draw aspects of the environment as they shifted and changed.
It did strike me that it would be interesting to investigate other interpretations, therefore, I did two further larger drawings, one stationary and observing the environment as I saw it and the other running, not trying to represent anything visually, but track the movements of my pen on the paper and the forces acting upon it.

Hulahoops

Photos from Week 9 - Food
Food week
(This is the only week I have photographic documentation for as I lost my phone with pictures and footage from previous weeks)
The first artwork, which involved eating with sweets and drawing with crayons had a large impact on me and actually influenced how I responded to another piece (Hana Frederick's hulahoops). I really engaged with a childlike state of mind and it evoked memories of birthdays (it was my birthday on this date) I had celebrated a long time ago.
The collaborative piece involving drawing with sauce and feeling crisps with the mouth needed much higher levels of concentration. It was interesting to see how the difficulty of executing the task altered the outcomes and how different people's perception of what they felt was realised.
